LOS ANGELES (AP) -- A Princess Cruises employee has been charged with sexually assaulting a female passenger during a 14-day cruise from Florida to Los Angeles.

Jorge Teixeira (HOR'-hay teh-SHEHR'-uh) was charged Tuesday with aggravated sexual abuse. He is being held with no bond set pending a Thursday detention hearing.

The 38-year-old Portuguese man was arrested Monday as the Coral Princess docked in Los Angeles.

An affidavit says a 42-year-old woman reported that Teixeira assaulted her late Thursday after the two shared some wine. He was working as a head waiter in a dining room.

A message left for the federal public defender's office was not immediately returned. If convicted, Teixeira could face life in prison.
