CASSELTON (AP) -- Residents of Casselton will vote Tuesday on whether they want to silence train whistles through the southeastern North Dakota town.
The vote is only advisory. The city council will have the final say.
The proposal calls for using 75 percent of the revenue from Casselton's 1 percent city sales tax to fund a majority of the $1.2 million quiet zone project, which would involve safety improvements to keep people protected in the absence of train warning whistles.
More than 50 trains per day roll through the center of Casselton.
