FARGO and BISMARCK -- North Dakota Tax Commissioner Ryan Rauschenberger today launched his campaign for the Republican Party’s nomination for North Dakota Tax Commissioner.
Rauschenberger has been tax commissioner since January 1, having been appointed by Gov. Jack Dalrymple to serve the final year of the term of Tax Commissioner Cory Fong, who resigned to take a position in the private sector.
Prior to his appointment, Rauschenberger had served as deputy state tax commissioner since July 2009.
“I am seeking election to this position so I can continue to build upon the work we have already begun,” he said. “We have helped deliver tax relief for North Dakotans, made the Tax Department one of the most efficient and cost effective agencies in state government and helped simplify our tax system and greatly expanded electronic filing options.”
As deputy commissioner, Rauschenberger led the agency’s policy analysis and tax research team; assisted the tax commissioner in overseeing all areas of tax administration; conducted public outreach to educate business leaders and other citizens about the application of taxes and worked with legislators regarding state tax policy.

“My goals for the next five years include building on the $2.4 billion in historic income and property tax relief we have been able to provide North Dakotans since 2009,” Rauschenberger said. “Property taxes are one of the most sensitive issues we are facing. In the coming weeks and months, we’ll be working to inform taxpayers as to just how much property tax relief the state will be providing,” he said. “We will also continue to work with the North Dakota Department of Commerce and others in promoting our attractive tax climate
