A Rhame man faces a litany of charges after allegedly kidnapping and assaulting his girlfriend over the weekend.

Tristian Larkin, born in 1996, is being held at the Dickinson Adult Detention Center on an $8,000 cash bond, as recommended by Bowman County State’s Attorney Stephanie Pretzer.

According to an affidavit, Bowman County Sheriff’s Deputy Doug Langhoff responded to a report of domestic assault on Sunday and met with a woman with two black eyes. She told the deputy her boyfriend, Larkin, had “struck her repeatedly” Saturday night, including hitting her head into the window of a car they were both in. Sunday morning, when the pair arrived at the Frontier Travel Center in Bowman, she jumped out of the car and fled his control, according to the affidavit.

From there, she ran to the El-Vu Motel and called her mother for help. The woman also alleges that Larkin made references to killing himself or others.

Appearing by video conference Monday, Larkin tried to tell Southwest Judicial District Judge William Herauf that he was seeking treatment and medications for mental illness, but Herauf stopped him before he made any potentially incriminating statements. Larkin hasn’t hired an attorney.

Larkin is charged with Class A felony kidnapping; Class C felonies felonious restraint, terrorizing and aggravated assault; Class A misdemeanors menacing, criminal coercion and unlawful imprisonment; and Class B misdemeanor disorderly conduct.

Pretzer also said Monday that she may file drug- or alcohol-related charges. Larkin’s preliminary hearing has not been scheduled.

If Larkin bails out of jail, Herauf has authorized Bowman County deputies to assist him in surrendering his weapons.

“I don’t want you around guns,” Herauf told him.
