WAHPETON -- Brady Johnson drove in the game-winning run to lead Wahpeton to a 9-8 victory over the Dickinson Roughriders on Saturday in American Legion baseball.
It was the Roughriders' first game after winning the Class A state high school championship as the Dickinson Midgets less than a week ago.
Dickinson gave up 10 runs in the first three innings of Game 2 and couldn't fight back, despite a solid pitching effort from reliever Michael Steve, and lost 10-8 in the late game of the doubleheader.
The Roughriders had their share of first-game jitters under new coach Cory Hansen.
Dickinson committed eight errors and gave up just six earned runs in the two games. The Roughriders also had a combined total of 26 hits. They walked 10 batters in Game 1.

"We just had way too many walks," Hansen said. "You don't even give yourself a chance to be in the ball game when you're throwing those kinds of numbers out."
Johnson had four RBIs in Game 1 for Wahpeton.
However, Cole Frenzel and Jamie Ollila helped keep the Roughriders going with a pair of home runs.
Frenzel came to pitch in the bottom of the seventh inning and gave up Johnson's game-winning base hit.
Travis Tooley went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs in Game 2.
"They're just kind of getting used to the pace of thing," Hansen said. Things are new and it's a little different now."
