Sander pleads not guilty

Trinity High School’s former principal, charged with starting a devastating fire in the school last month, pleaded not guilty Monday and waived his preliminary hearing at the Stark County Courthouse.
Thomas Sander, 30, is charged with B felonies of arson and endangering by fire from an early March blaze that displaced Trinity students for the rest of the school year.
He allegedly started the fire in a file cabinet in the main office’s vault.
Sander was released from jail a month ago after posting reduced bond and has since been in the custody of his father. He also must wear a GPS-enabled monitoring bracelet.
A pre-trial conference and trial have yet to be scheduled.
At the hearing, defense attorney Lloyd Suhr also brought up that the defense will likely need longer than the usual few weeks to prepare for the pre-trial conference, like doing depositions.
