Former Trinity High School Principal Tom Sander, charged with starting a fire in the school last month, is scheduled to go to trial July 16.
Sander waived his right to a preliminary hearing Monday and pleaded not guilty, and the trial date was added to the court calendar shortly after. His pre-trial conference will be held June 24. Southwest Judicial District Judge Dann Greenwood will preside, though Sander’s lawyers submitted a demand for a change of judge Tuesday.
Sander is charged with arson for allegedly setting fire to contents of a file cabinet in Trinity’s main office, and with endangering by fire because he allegedly knew a Trinity teacher was in the building’s second-floor apartment at the time.
The fire has displaced Trinity junior high and high school students for the remainder of the school year.
Both charges are B felonies, each carrying a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and $20,000.
