WATFORD CITY – Sanford Health announced Wednesday it will partner with McKenzie County Healthcare Systems to construct a new hospital and clinic in Watford City and bring specialty physicians to the heart of the Oil Patch.

The new collaboration also will expand air ambulance services in McKenzie County, which accounts for a third of the state’s oil drilling activity.

Starting early next year, Sanford cardiologists, orthopedic specialists and pediatricians will begin providing outreach care in Watford City.

Next spring, McKenzie County Healthcare Systems will begin the largest construction project in its 62-year-history. The project, just east of the existing Good Shepherd Home, will include a new hospital with expanded emergency room and operating room, a new clinic with triple the exam space and complete renovation and addition to the Good Shepherd Home.

“By working together, we can meet some of the great needs of this rapidly changing region,” said Dan Kelly, McKenzie County Healthcare Systems CEO. “Partnering with Sanford Health means we can do more for our patients than we could do alone.”
