GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- Police in South Carolina are scanning security video and getting tips about the possible identity of a woman who delivered a baby in an arena restroom and left him in the toilet, a spokesman said Tuesday.
Authorities are also getting inquiries about adopting the newborn, who was discovered in the bowl by a cleaning crew after a circus performance at the arena Friday night, said Sgt. Jason Rampey of the Greenville Police.
"We've gotten a number of tips," about the identity of the woman who apparently delivered the 6-pound boy in a women's restroom, Rampey said.
Rampey said he had not gotten an update on the health of the child, except that "he is surviving" since he was admitted to Greenville Memorial Hospital in critical condition. Evidence in the women's bathroom indicated the baby was born there.
Rampey said officials put out a plea for help from the public to help identify the mother and child after investigators searched through surveillance tapes. The video checks were difficult because thousands of people attended the circus Friday night.

Callers have also been asking about adopting the child. They have been referred to the state Department of Social Services, Rampey said.
