Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.) launched a website on Wednesday with resources for North Dakotans to learn about the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, and options people may have to get covered under the federal marketplace exchange. Open enrollment started Wednesday, Nov. 1 and will last through Friday, Dec. 15.

"Health care open enrollment has started, and I encourage North Dakotans to use the resources on my new webpage to help answer their questions, sign up for coverage, or search for different plans," Heitkamp said in a press release. "This year, the time frame to enroll in health insurance is a month and a half shorter with fewer federal resources available to assist folks. That's why I'm stepping up to make sure North Dakotans can get the information and assistance they need."

Heitkamp's website provides links to resources regarding the federal marketplace, Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program and information about tax credits and lowering out-of-pocket costs.

The Trump administration cut many navigator and other Obamacare outreach programs this year so fewer resources are available for potential consumers in North Dakota to get information about enrolling in an Obamacare plan.

In Dickinson, however, Deb Nelson's DLN Consulting will continue to give free guidance to people interested in gaining health coverage in the enrollment period. The hospital, CHI St. Alexius, also has hired staff to aid patients in finding coverage options.

Stark County is one of 48 North Dakota counties that will have Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota as the only Obamacare provider. BCBSND, Sanford Health and Medica will continue to offer private insurance options statewide.
