BISMARCK (AP) -- North Dakota's Senate is backing 5 percent raises for state government workers for each of the next two years.
Senators voted 46-0 on Friday to support legislation that outlines the Legislature's policy for state employee compensation.
It says each agency will get enough money to provide 5 percent pay increases for their workers this year and next. The actual raises will be based on merit. But employees who qualify will get a raise of at least $100 a month during each of the next two years.
The legislation now goes to the North Dakota House.
Gov. John Hoeven suggested the increases in his spending plan for the Legislature. Hoeven also wants to keep paying the full cost for state employee health care insurance premiums.
