What you are looking at and reading is a baby step. The best is yet to come.
Today, The Dickinson Press launches its five-day-a-week sports section, aimed at bringing you additional local coverage, as well as enhanced reports from national and regional events.
And yes, we have added sports in color!
On all days except Tuesday, the Press will include a three- to four-page sports section with a color cover and back page. Sometimes, the inside pages will also be in color.
The addition of this section means larger pictures and expanded coverage of several events.
Today, we climb the first rung on a ladder of undetermined height. We are currently tossing around several ideas about what direction we'd like this section to take in the future.
Expect to make several changes to our sports section presentation in the coming weeks and months. This is a process that may take some time, so please be patient.
One of the first steps in moving forward is the addition of our expanded pre-game coverage of Dickinson State football in Saturday's section.
However, with all changes come highs and lows.
With that in mind, I'm taking this opportunity to ask all coaches to report their game results prior to 10 p.m. We ask this because more pages means more work - and earlier deadlines - for the sports desk.
If you cannot reach that deadline, please try to get results to us as soon as possible. We understand that it's
common for football games to stretch out longer than expected. However, this is not an excuse for reporting scores after the requested deadline.
If you report to us late and your results are not in the scoreboard the next day, this is why. While we encourage calling our sports line, fax and e-mail work just as well.
We are hope to hear from readers about the changes and what they think of the new section and the coverage that comes with it.
You may reach us by phone at (701) 225-8111, or by fax at (701) 225-6653. Press sports reporters e-mails are listed in story bylines.
