Scott Keidel with Allied Monument Co., sandblasts names onto the Dunn County Veterans Memorial, Friday, at the Allied Monument shop in rural Dickinson. Gene Keidel, also with Allied, peels off a stencil used to carve the names onto the memorial. The brothers said it took quite awhile to double-check the over 1,300 names slated to go on the six slabs of granite purchased from India.
When the memorial is finished, it will sit in Killdeer off of Highway 22.
There has been some excitement among Dunn County residents, said Dean Bergstedt, Dunn County Veterans Memorial Wall Committee member.
"I think it's been something veterans have been wanting since World War II, so for at least 60 years people have been talking about it," Bergstedt said. "People have tried to start the project, but now it's all coming together. People from all over the county want to see this built."
A dedication ceremony is planned for July 3 at 2 p.m. at the memorial.

The memorial will have room to add 300 to 400 names and name submissions are still being taken, Bergstedt said.
