BISMARCK (AP) -- Commissioners in Dunn County have closed about 25 miles of road while declaring a countywide snow emergency.

The roads will remain closed until it quits snowing or spring begins, whichever comes first.

Commission chairman Daryl Dukart says the move is to save on overtime and wear and tear on workers and equipment.

Dukart says the short road sections are mostly shortcuts that save mail route miles. But at least one family will have to go 15 miles of out the way because of it.

The 50 to 60 inches of snow is deep, but it isn't a record,

The county spent $20,000 in overtime in January to compensate its road department, and it has spent another $40,000 on fuel bills every month of winter.
