KILLEEN, Texas (AP) -- Authorities say a Fort Hood soldier at the wheel of an SUV has been shot and killed by a Texas police officer who was being dragged along by the vehicle.
Police in Kileen say the officer was trying to detain a man in connection with a disturbance early Saturday when the man attempted to escape by jumping into the SUV through an open window.
Police say the man was hanging out of the window when the officer attempted to pull him out by grabbing his waist. They say the driver then started the car, dragging the officer along.
Police say the officer then freed one arm and fired at the driver.
Killeen police spokeswoman Carroll Smith says arrests were made but information about the charges was not immediately available.
