The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines "shindig" as a social gathering with dancing or an unusually large or lavish party.

Mike Sticka is helping to bring such an event to South Heart on Saturday. Sticka and his wife Janelle are the owners of the "I Don't Know" bar in South Heart.

The pair approached the city council about the South Heart Shindig as a means to liven up the town.

"There hasn't been a lot that goes on here," said Mike Sticka, who is originally from Dickinson. "It's nice to come down here and stir things up and get things going."

The Stickas bought the I Don't Know in May. The couple saw the benefits of owning a small-town bar. They also see the positives of an annual festivity such as the shindig.

"We are trying to liven up the town," Mike Sticka said. "It's been working."

Several events happen Saturday. The shindig kicks off with an 11 a.m. parade. There is a kids' fair, talent contest, competitive and non-competitive mechanical bull riding and much more.

A dinner and supper is planned by the South Heart Fire Department. The day wraps up with a street dance with music provided by the band "A Avenue" of Dickinson.

The Stickas found excitement when they approached the city council about South Heart playing host to the shindig.

"The city council has been nothing but helpful," Mike Sticka said. "Everybody out here is so nice. Everybody is being helpful."
