"It's a day of fellowship with our residents. They open their home to the community," said activity director Bonnie Goldsberry.

The event starts at 10 a.m. with a polka Mass on Sunday, Oct. 1. The day continues throughout the day with an ethnic food dinner, silent auction, craft and bake sale, cake walk and musical entertainment.

"Back when we started this 15 years ago, the staff did all the work. Now, we have all the community involved. I can't say enough about the event," she said.

Goldsberry said the event involves a multitude of volunteers who help with baking, make crafts, haul tables and chairs or provide the entertainment.

Goldsberry enjoys coming to work these days, as the sweet aroma of all the baked goods drifts throughout the hallways.

She said the bake sale features ethnic foods like kolache, kuchen, plachinda, but also sour cream twists, caramel rolls and pop corn balls.

"The popcorn balls are the big ticket. Last year we made 564 and sold out. We're making even more this year," she said.

The proceeds from the Autumnfest are dedicated to enhancements for the dining room and therapy rooms.

Everyone in the community is invited to join in the autumn celebration.
