HAZEN -- The Dickinson boys hockey team's West Region slide continued Tuesday night in a game Midgets coach Dave Hanneman called, "extremely disappointing."

Hazen-Beulah senior Mason Borud scored a pair of goals and Conor Borud added another in the third period while North Stars senior goaltender Jake Oster stopped 27 Dickinson shots.

The duo's effort helped Hazen-Beulah seal a 3-0 West Region victory over the Midgets, who lost their last seven region games of the regular season.

"There wasn't one of 18 guys who wanted to go out and put out a complete effort," Hanneman said. "There wasn't one of 18 guys with any heart out there."

Coming into the game, the North Stars had won only one other region game and two on the season. The shutout helped them improve to 3-13-1 overall and 2-12-1 in the West.

Dickinson, meanwhile, fell to 9-10-2 overall and 5-9-2 in the West despite allowing just 15 shots on goal. Midgets goaltender Grant Kovacs had 12 saves.

"I'm at a loss of words," Hanneman said. "I guess disappointed wouldn't express completely how I feel, but that's a good start."

Dickinson now has eight days to prepare for the West Region tournament. The Midgets will likely have the seventh seed in the tournament and, if that position holds, would draw Mandan in the quarterfinals.

Since the spring semester began, Dickinson is just 2-7. Its wins came against Jamestown on Jan. 4 and against Breckenridge-Wahpeton, a nonconference game, on Jan. 25.

"I don't know what it's going to take," Hanneman said. "There isn't any time to go out and stand around anymore because it's do or die."
