The Dickinson Roughriders got to celebrate an early victory at their home-opener Saturday night at Southside Municipal Ballpark.
"I feel we played pretty good," second-base man Jamie Ollia said. "It was a combination of our defense and putting the ball into play when we had runners in scoring position."
The Roughriders took full advantage of the chances they were handed defeating the Miles City Mavericks 18-4 in just five innings.
"Today we had to use wood bats so we had to go back to that, but they're pretty experienced using the wood bats," Roughriders coach Cory Hanson said. "They hit real well. We got 11 hits today. I'm pretty happy with that. Anytime we get double digits in hits, it should give us a chance to win the ballgame."
"It was a total team effort today," he added.

Dickinson pitcher Ben Herauf threw five strikeouts, and six walks.
"Ben Herauf did a great job filling up the zone, throwing strikes," Hanson said. "We got good quality with bats today. We've been struggling with that. We drove in some runners with two outs. That's what we were keying on."
Miles City opening pitcher Tanner Crevier threw 2 1/3 innings with six hits, three walks and hitting four batters. Isaiah Bergman stepped in throwing one strikeout, three walks, nine runs.
"We played with wood bats all high school season so going back to that wasn't too much of a change," Herauf said. "We hit the ball well. We got people into scoring position, took advantage of some of their mistakes and put up a nice number."
