GRAND FORKS (AP) -- Grand Forks police say a 16-year-old boy from Steele fell 30-40 feet and landed on a concrete floor at the Alerus Center.

The state Class B girls basketball tournament is being played at the Alerus. Police say the boy fell over a railing Friday night while attempting to reach for an object.

Witnesses say the boy was reaching for a T-shirt being shot into the crowd when he fell off the back of the bleachers. Police Sgt. Dwight Love says he can't release any details about the incident because the boy is a juvenile. Alerus Center officials did not immediately return telephone calls Saturday seeking comment.

Authorities did not identify the boy, who was taken to a local hospital. An Altru nursing supervisor on Saturday declined to release the boy's condition.

Steele is one of the towns in the Kidder County co-op that is playing in Saturday night's championship game, against Fordville-Lankin-Park River.
