BELFIELD -- The Dickinson Trinity volleyball team struggled early on, but found its groove in a 25-22, 25-19, 25-15 win over Heart River on Tuesday in Region 7 play.

"They did start off very tough," Trinity coach Brad Foss said. "They were creating some problems for us. They were successful at what they were doing to keep us off balance."

Foss said the key was figuring out Heart River's game plan.

"As the game went on, we got more comfortable with what they were doing," Foss said. "We wore them down to the point where we could handle them."

Foss said he wasn't pleased with his team's passing or hitting.

"We didn't do an outstanding job at either," Foss said. "I thought we picked it up at the end of the game."

Trinity junior Shannon Ernst's efforts were praised by Foss. Ernst had 10 kills and nine digs.

"She hit the ball well," Foss said. "She was a sparkplug for us. She sparked us at some opportune times and had some big kills for us."

Senior Noelle Steiner had 10 kills and a pair of blocks. Senior Kaylee Schank had 18 digs and nine kills.

Heart River was led by Megan Richard's nine kills and 15 digs. Maren Dorval had 24 digs to go with two aces.
