BISMARCK -- Two California men were taken into custody Sunday afternoon after a North Dakota Highway Patrol trooper found 136 pounds of marijuana.

The driver, 22-year-old Andrew Xiong, and his passenger, 33-year-old Jerry Yang, both of Sacramento, Calif., were taken into custody and transported to the Burleigh County Detention Center in Bismarck.

The trooper stopped a Hyundai Elantra with Idaho license plates on Interstate 94 just east of Steele, the Highway Patrol said in a news release. After speaking with Xiong and Yang, the trooper became suspicious of possible criminal activity and a search took place.

The Bismarck area Metro Area Narcotics Task Force and the Kidder County Sheriff's Department assisted in the seizure.
