VALLEY CITY (AP) -- Businesses in Valley City are being allowed to reopen after a temporary fix of the city's flooded sewer system.

Mayor Mary Lee Nielson says she's lifted an order that required nonessential businesses to close after the sewer system failed last Friday.

Nielson says residents in the town of about 7,000 still are being asked to use portable toilets because the sewer system is not fully back to normal. She says many of them are willing to put up with that to get the businesses open first.
