Vernie Klee, 72, Beulah, formerly of Halliday, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007, at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MDT on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007, at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Halliday, with the Rev. Johnson Kuriappilly officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. today Tuesday, at Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah.

Vernie was born on Feb. 22, 1935, at Dodge, the daughter of James and Phyllis (Peterson) Johnson. She was raised and educated at Dodge, and during High School, was the rodeo queen. Vernie was very athletic and participated in basketball, hunting and fishing.

On Jan. 16, 1951, she married Jonas Klee at Dodge. Together they moved to an air force base near Rapid City, S.D. When Jonas was discharged from the Air Force, they moved back to Halliday where Vernie assisted providing for the family doing various part-time jobs while raising her children.

In 1973, Vernie started employment with the Union Bank at Halliday. She joined her husband in retirement in 1999. During this time, they enjoyed the lake cabin, fishing and teaching their grandchildren how to fish and hunt.

In August of 2005, Jonas passed away. Vernie then moved to Beulah to be near her siblings with whom she enjoyed spending time. She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church and Altar Society and a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Beulah.

Vernie is survived by her children, Joan and Victor Morales, Atlanta, Ga., Paula and Scott Odegaard, Mandan, Gina and Paul Neigum, Bismarck, Michael and Rochelle Klee, Chaska, Minn.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Sodie Peabody, Beulah, Jolaine and Layton Bornemann, Hazen, Janice and Mike Isaak, Dodge; one brother-in-law, Charles and Gloria Klee, Wheelersburg, Ohio; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jonas; one granddaughter, Mariah Young; one infant sister, Julie; one brother, Stanley Johnson; one brother-in-law, Bowers Peabody.
