As Dr. Lee Vickers' tenure as Dickinson State University president begins to wind down, the North Dakota Chamber of Commerce is sending him off with a bang.
Vickers becomes the recipient of the Education and Business Partnership Award during the Dickinson Area Chamber of Commerce annual banquet on Oct. 30 at the Dickinson Elks Club.
"Vickers is an invaluable asset to our education system, as well as our state's business community," N.D. Chamber of Commerce President Dave MacIver said in a press release. "Thanks to his own entrepreneurial spirit, he has helped pave the way for thousands of other students to learn from him and join many of our other businessmen and women to continue North Dakota's progress of becoming a leader in research, entrepreneurship and technology."
The press release states Vickers is receiving the award as an acknowledgement of his leadership and advocacy of the Strom Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
MacIver, who is also presenting the award at the banquet, said the chamber seeks nominations, which a public relations committee reviews and tallies.

"What they do in the nomination, they're given an area to tell us why they deserve this award," MacIver said.
The press release states Vickers' contributions to the region also include his support of cultural diversity, enrollment increases and expansion of curriculum offerings.
It states, "Vickers promoted entrepreneurship as a way to revitalize the region's economy, as well as to stem out-migration in the region and felt the center was a way to accomplish these goals."
Vickers said he is happy to receive the award.
"I am very honored to have been selected for such a prestigious award," Vickers said.
