MEDORA -- Bismarck St. Mary's junior Thomas Welk was the only varsity golfer to card a score in the 70s on Friday at Bully Pulpit Golf Course.

However, it didn't help the Saints' cause as Bismarck Century and Bismarck High had seven golfers finish in the top 10 golfers at the Dickinson High Invitational.

While the Century edged Bismarck 331 to 332, the Saints were third with a 343 and Dickinson fourth at 353.

Cole Baker shot an 84 and Jake Bauer carded an 85 for the Midgets.

Midgets coach Mark Fox said having the first tournament of the season kick off at Bully Pulpit was tough for some of the golfers.

"It's tough to play anytime," Fox said. "Being the first tournament of the year really makes it tough."

The two-day tournament resumes at 9 a.m. today when the golfers tee off at Heart River Golf Course in Dickinson.

"Even if it rains and they have to play in the rain, I bet we'll see a lot better scores," Fox said.
