WATFORD CITY -- Jacob Wheeling used nice weather to his advantage Saturday, shooting a 68 at the Watford City Invitational.

The Killdeer senior went once around the nine-hole Watford City Golf Club course and shot a 35. He carded a 33 on his second trip.

Paired with Wheeling's four-under-par performance, Austin Dufault's 80 and Zach Dufault's 82. helped the Cowboys win the tournament with a 313.

"Killdeer definitely proved themselves as the team to beat," Dickinson Trinity coach Todd Fisher said. "They're in mid-season form already and it's early in the year."

Hazen sophomore Chad Marshall shot a 73 to help his team finish in second place with a 325. Trinity was third with 334.

Sophomore John Barnes led the Titans with an 80.

"We finally got some nice weather and the scores kind of showed it," Fisher said. "We can definitely get a little better and that will show with practice."

Trinity senior Scott Peters, who entered the tournament as the team's sixth golfer, finished with an 84. Titans seniors Casey Olheiser, Mark Keithley and Jacob Selinger all shot 85s.

"Overall, we played OK, not our best," Fisher said. "They'll improve, so that's something to look forward to."
