FARGO (AP) -- A Denver woman who came to Fargo for the birth of her niece played more of a role than she expected.
Lizzy Calnin, who passed her nursing exam just two weeks ago, got a chance to use her training when her sister-in-law, Jamie Nelson, began having labor contractions at home early Sunday.
Calnin told Nelson to lie down on the bathroom floor and prepared to deliver the baby. She found the umbilical cord wrapped around the baby's neck.
Calnin unwrapped the cord. She began performing CPR to get the baby girl to breathe.
Calnin says it seemed like forever but after about three or four breaths, her newborn niece started breathing.

Alexis Nelson was born 20 inches long and weighing 8 pounds, 10 ounces. The ambulance arrived shortly after her birth and took Jamie and Alexis to the hospital. They were released Tuesday.
