Oh how time flies when you're having fun.

The Dickinson Press Women's Expo formally marked its fifth year of fun and helpful information Saturday as it returned to Dickinson Trinity High School.

The event that started as a focus on women's health issues is now solidly established in the eight-county region the newspaper serves.

This year's keynote speaker was Lois McElravy of Missoula, Mont., who spoke about overcoming serious issues associated with her recovery from a severe brain injury she received when her vehicle was hit from behind at a high rate of speed on Feb. 7, 1990.

McElravy's presentation focused on how you look at things, "when life looks ugly." She said none of us are immune to the difficulties of life, and she encouraged everyone to use humor to be a shock absorber or cushion in life.

The event also featured the singing of Courtney Smith, 9, of Palermo, who is blind but has found an outlet with her music.

As is tradition at the expo, information seminars also were part of the program, as 10 different topics were reviewed with expo participants.

The day then closed with Mandan's Ben Suchy performing his music, following in his father Chuck's footsteps, who performed at the expo during its first year in 2002.
