BISMARCK - Write-in candidates for governor, U.S. House and president have been certified to appear on North Dakota ballots.
The candidates met state filing requirements for appearing on the ballots, Secretary of State Al Jaeger said in a news release Monday, Oct. 24.
For write-in votes to be sorted and canvassed for the certified candidates, state law requires the total number of write-in votes cast for an office must exceed 5 percent of the votes cast for the candidate receiving the most votes for that office.
The news release said after ballots are scanned by the tabulator, any ballot with a name of a write-in candidate on it is moved by the scanner to a separate bin where it is then determined if enough ballots have been cast in a particular contest to mandate the canvass of the write-in ballots.

U.S. House: DuWayne Hendrickson, Minot
President: Michael A Maturen of Harrisville Mich.; Cherunda Fox of Detroit; Laurence Kotlikoff of Boston; Marshall Schoenke of Lake Villa, Ill., Robert L Buchanan of Fredericksburg, Va.; and David Evan McMullin of Washington, D.C.
