Dunham's Sports opened Friday at Prairie Hills Mall.

A grand opening was held with store giveaways and a ribbon-cutting ceremony by the Dickinson Area Chamber of Commerce.

Prairie Hills announced the new store was coming in May.

Jeremy Braegelmann, Dunham's district manager, said he was happy to bring the new store to Dickinson.

"I think this is going to be a great community for us," he said. "We feel like we've been very embraced by the community since we've started our work here and started staffing. I think we're going to fill a need for the community, and we're excited and happy to be able to do that."

Peggy O'Brien, Prairie Hills general manager, said she was excited to welcome Dunham's to the mall and to Dickinson.

"They are filling a market void that we have worked with for years trying to fill, and they will be an absolutely fantastic addition to our tenant picks," she said.

Russ Krivoruchka, Dunham's general manager, described it as an "awesome day."

Readying the new store to open was no easy task, Krivoruchka said.

"Opening a new store is always kind of a challenge," he said, "but there was a great staff here that helped me out and did great work for us."

The store boasts a staff of roughly 40 and offers a variety of brands of sporting equipment, including Nike, UnderArmour, Remington and more.

For the grand opening, the store gave away t-shirts to the first 50 customers, offered specials on products, and gave free six-packs for in-store purchases over $10.

"It's kind of like Christmas day all over again," Krivoruchka said.

Dickinson is a great fit for Dunham's, Braegelmann said.

"It fits the type of community we want to be in well, in terms of population size and the retail that's already here," he said. "It's a great for us."

There were some challenges in bringing a new store to Dickinson, Braegelmann said, but they were overcome.

"We worked hard and we really wanted to be here, and we were eventually able to make it work," he said. "I think this is going to be a great location for us and a great location for the city."

Nathan Smith, a Dickinson resident, said he was excited to became the first person to enter the store after the ribbon was cut.

"I was here when they did a mini-opening, so I got a sneak peak at what's all inside," Smith said. "Definitely going to get some good deals today."

Dunham's Sports is located at Prairie Hills Mall, 1681 Third Ave. W, and is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
