High School Athlete of the Week - Cody Perkins
Cody Perkins, a senior on the Mott-Regent boys basketball team, netted a game-high 33 points in an 86-79 Region 7 victory over Beach on Jan. 31. The next day, the 6-foot-4 forward scored a team-leading 19 points in a 62-60 win over New England. The victories were on the back end of a six-game win streak for the Wildfire.
DP: What do you think was the key to success over your win streak?
CP: "Our key to success is just gelling together, getting in the gym for many countless hours and just playing together."
DP: How long have you been playing basketball and what do you most enjoy about it?
CP: "I've been playing basketball since I was probably about three, but the team I started in fifth grade. I just love being out there. Everything seems to click and just having fun."
DP: Do you have any team goals for the rest of the season?
CP: "Our team's goals are to get to the regional tournament and play the best we can."
DP: Do you have any individual goals?
CP: "Not at the moment. It's all about the team."
DP: Who was your favorite athlete growing up?
CP: "My cousin, Kyson McBride and Blake Griffin. ... Blake Griffin, just because he was a phenomenal dunker."
DP: If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
CP: "To eat one thing for the rest of my life, I'd probably have to say pizza."
DP: Who is your celebrity crush?
CP: "My celebrity crush would have to be Megan Fox."
DP: Who is your funniest teammate?
CP: "My funniest teammate would have to be either Isaac Frey or Asad Watson-Buffalo. They're always saying things that crack me up."
DP: Country or Hip-hop?
CP: "Mostly country, but pregame, Hip-hop."
DP: Snapchat or Instagram?
CP: "Snapchat, for sure."
DP: Basketball or any other sport?
CP: "My favorite sport is basketball, but I play them all and love them all."
DP: Who is your biggest inspiration to succeed?
CP: "My biggest inspiration to succeed would probably have to be my Dad. He's always been there for me and I can't thank him enough. He's always been in the gym rebounding for me. I'd also have to say Nate Zachmann. He's always been there to encourage me and always been there for me."
