Ronald Gary Hauf
Ronald Gary Hauf, 79, Makoti, died Monday, November 14, 2016 in a Minot assisted living facility. Ron was born October 19, 1937 in Minot to Otto and Alice (Walter) Hauf. He was raised near Max on the family farm in Poplar Township. He attended country school through the seventh grade. His teacher thought he was so sharp and tested him allowing him to skip fourth grade and join his older brother in grade five. He graduated from Max High School in 1954. Ron continued his education at Minot Teachers College where he earned his bachelor's degree in Math and Business Education. During the summers, he attended University of North Dakota and Boise State University to complete his master's degree in School Administration.
Ron was united in marriage to Janet Beyer on June 4, 1961. They made their home in Minot, Lansford and Flaxton, where Ron taught school. They moved to Makoti in 1970 after Ron accepted the position as Superintendent of North Shore School. Ron also started farming with his family while living in Makoti. After retiring from North Shore school, Ron was the Superintendent of White Shield school. Ron and Janet moved to Minot in 2011. Janet passed away April 24, 2014.
Ron was a member of the Elk's Lodge in Minot and served on the Plaza-Makoti Equity Elevator board. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Makoti where he also served on the church council for many years.
Ron loved hunting and fishing. Deer hunting was his favorite sport and he harvested his deer this season. He enjoyed traveling with Jan and they were especially fond of San Francisco. He also liked to play cards and treasured spending time with his grandkids.
Ron is survived by his sons, Glen (Lori) of Makoti and Todd (Lori) of Dickinson; daughter, Michelle Petz (Patrick) of Makoti; grandchildren, Amanda, Kristen and Darien Hauf; Justin Plummer (Jess Bauske) and Sheyenne Hovick (Jake); and Cheydan and Taryn Hauf; great-grandson, Weston Hovick; brothers, Edward (Ida Mae) of Max and Kenneth (Darlene) of Florida; sisters, Marion Burgess (Dick) of Oregon, Marge Lorentzsen (Tom) of Fargo and Darlene Lorenz (Rick) of New Hampshire; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Funeral: Friday, November 18, 2016 at 11 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Makoti
Visitation: Thursday from noon to 4 p.m. in Langhans Funeral Home, Parshall
Interment: St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Makoti
