Otto Kovash


On Wednesday, January 27, 2021, Otto Kovash passed away at age 92, in Chandler, AZ.

Otto Anton Kovash was born on the family farm in New Hradec, N.D. on October 9, 1928 to Stephen and Minnie (Meduna) Kovash. He was raised both on the farm and later in Dickinson, N.D. In 1950, he received a Business Administration degree from St. Martin’s College in Lacey, WA. After graduation, he joined the military and was stationed in Germany. He was married to Arvella Beaudoin on June 7, 1955 in Dickinson.

Otto moved his family to Bottineau, N.D. in 1970, where he was the general manager of Koland Incorporated until his retirement in 1988. He was an active member of the Bottineau community including St. Mark’s Catholic Church, NDSU-BB Logrollers, and as a local election official. He also served as President of the Bottineau Chamber of Commerce in 1983. He and Arvella relocated to Arizona in 2012.

He is survived by Arvella, his wife of over 65 years, 6 children: Charmaine Schroeder (Steve), Tempe, AZ, Tim Kovash (Esmeralda), Edinburg, TX, Gloria Rabbass (Butch), Jackson, MO, James Kovash (Lori), Bisbee, AZ, Paula Johnson (Darrin), Chandler, AZ and John Kovash (Christyne), Phoenix, AZ; 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He is also survived by 2 sisters; Betty Kleeman, Fargo, ND and Edith Batholome, Santa Rosa, CA. He is preceeded in death by his parents and 2 brothers; Andy and Alfred. A graveside memorial service will be held on Friday, March 19 at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetary, Mesa, AZ at 10:00 A.M.
