Stanley J. Lang

Stanley J. Lang, 91, formerly of Dickinson, ND, passed away at Seton Ascencion Hospital in Austin, TX on December 15, 2020. Entombment for Stanley will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, January 21, 2021 at the Dickinson Mausoleum.

Stanley James Lang was born on July 10, 1929 in Jamestown, ND to August and Kathryn (Schroeder) Lang. He graduated from Jamestown High School in 1947. After serving 2 years in the Army, he returned to ND and earned a BA degree in teaching from Valley City State. He taught high school social studies and earned his Master’s degree in education from UND. While attending college in Valley City, he met Phyllis Meschke and they were married June 21, 1957. For the majority of his career, he sold educational video supplies in the Vancouver and Longview, WA region.

In 1992 Stan and Phyllis returned to Dickinson to be closer to family. Stan continued as a substitute teacher for several more years at DHS. They enjoyed traveling and spending winter months in Marble Falls, TX. Stan was very proud of his garden and yard, having the best looking yard on the street. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards, and could be found playing bingo most Friday’s at Army’s. What he was most know for, though, was his music. He had a beautiful baritone voice and sang lead with the Silver Sage quartet for many years, played banjo with the Sodbusters band, and sang with the Peace Lutheran Church choir. He loved to perform and continued to entertain people with his music until the very end.

After Phyllis passed away from cancer in 2010, Stan moved to Kingsland, TX and lived there for 10 years. He would be the first to say that he had a good life and was ready to move on.

Stan is survived by 2 nieces, Lonna Milburn (Mike) and Brenda Tachenko (Ervin Lantz) and their children; and special friends Duane and Marge Gulbranson and their children. He was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis, infant children Michael and Barbara, and daughter, Naomi; sisters Estelle Tachenko (Lonnie), and Lorraine Wolff, and his parents.
