Susan Smith

Susan Smith passed away November 27, 2020; she was 76 years old. She grew up on a farm South of Fargo, ND. At the age of 12 she dedicated her life to Jehovah God and was baptized. For a short time, she went to the North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton and during this time she met Ervin Smith. They were married in 1963. They moved to western North Dakota where they lived in a few places before settling in Dickinson. During this time, they had twins, but they lived only for a short time. This affected Susan deeply, but her strong faith in the Bible’s promise of a resurrection gave hope that was like an anchor for her. She is survived by 3 children and their families.
She enjoyed creation, traveling, and working on various Kingdom Hall construction projects in ND, SD, and MN with her husband. She loved to sew, crochet, knit, and quilt. She liked to teach others how to do that and she would give gifts of quilts to parents for their newborns. Later in life she struggled with her memory. She found comfort in watching and listening to programs on JW.org and in attending meetings and conventions of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Although limited, you could tell what was deep in her heart. If she saw children, she would immediately approach their parents and talk to them. She also had strong faith in the accuracy of God’s word the Bible as a practical guide and in the wisdom of the standards contained in it. She endeavored to help others to also appreciate that and to apply it in their life. Her strong conviction was motivating to others. Even within the last year after her husband died, when her memory was failing and she was speaking less and less, she spoke up to comfort someone who also had lost a loved one in death. This sure hope comforts us today.
There will be a funeral talk given by video conference on Zoom at 1:00 PM (MST) Saturday December 12, 2020. If you wish to attend please email travisbus@gmail.com to get the credentials.
