SULLIVAN: Wishing the best for the upcoming school year
On June 28, the Dickinson Public Schools and community of Dickinson took ownership of the new middle school. The grand opening for the facility was conducted on August 2 and the building is in full operational mode. This state of the art school building will welcome the first students through its doors on August 24.
At this time, there is an estimated 840 students enrolled to begin the school year at the middle school. This will generate significant traffic to and from the building in both the morning and afternoon. The purpose of this article is to provide some information about the traffic pattern at the building. It is also intended as an encouragement for parents to drive to the middle school. This will allow the parents to understand how traffic flows around the building prior to the start of the school year.
First, there is a delivery and bus loop on the west side of the building that is for buses only before and after school. Parents are not to drive into the bus loop to pick up nor deliver their children. Second, cars may turn either right or left when using the west parking lot exit. This will direct traffic to 21st Street West or 30th Avenue. Third, cars may turn right only when using the east parking lot exit. Fourth, there is no parking nor stopping on 21st street to pick up or deliver students. Finally, the parking lot does have one-way designations in multiple areas.
I invite all parents who may be driving to the school to visit the campus. Take the time to understand the traffic pattern in and around the middle school. This will provide for smoother traffic flow on August 24 and provide a safer environment for the students.
