Hennen: North Dakota says 'I told you so' on Biden

"You can't blame us for Joe Biden becoming president or the mess his awful policies have foisted on America," columnist Scott Hennen writes.

Americans regularly get asked about their opinions on everything from soup to nuts. Evidently, we're not a happy bunch about the national mess.

But the great thing about North Dakotans is we get to say, "I told you so." You can't blame us for Joe Biden becoming president or the mess his awful policies have foisted on America.

The November 2020 election in North Dakota had 65.5% of the vote for President Donald Trump and only 31.9% for Biden. Only two small rural counties voted for Biden-Harris, and the rest went for Trump-Pence. If I were a North Dakotan who voted for Biden, I might start to wonder if I'd best relocate to California or some such like-minded liberal paradise.

Back to North Dakota. As the Biden poll numbers plummet nationally, we can best explain it as the rest of the country catching up with our lead.

Check this out. People are seriously ticked about the pain in the pocketbook that has resulted from a big-spending, feckless economic policy. A recent Fox News poll includes interviews with 1,006 registered voters nationwide who were randomly selected from a voter file. Here are a few highlights:

"Some 57% say they have less money in their pocket than they did a year ago. That’s up seven points from 50% who felt that way last February. Those feeling hardest hit include Republican women (78% less money now), rural Whites (69%), Gen Xers (63%) and voters with annual income below $50,000 (62%). Fully 78% say the economy is in only fair or poor condition, mostly unchanged for the last year."

A staple poll question for every president is on job approval. As they say in the polling business, Biden is "upside down." Here is a not-so-hot takeaway:

"Biden’s worst job ratings continue to be on inflation, with 31% approving. And that’s a high point — approval went as low as 23% in June 2022. His ratings are also well underwater on the economy (36% approve, 62% disapprove), immigration (36% approve, 61% disapprove), guns (36% approve, 60% disapprove) and the opioid epidemic (36% approve, 56% disapprove)."

Not too much to be celebrating on your weekends in Delaware right there. In fact, there isn't any "good" news.

What about the freebie handout the Biden administration has proposed for student loan forgiveness? It was proposed and then paused because several states are suing at the Supreme Court arguing that the proposal isn't constitutional. Survey says: 49% of peeps say Joe exceeded his authority. 44% say he acted within his authority, but they don't get a vote. Only the nine members of the U.S. Supreme Court get the final word.

We should probably put this column out of its misery soon. I might begin to weep openly for poor Joe. Or not.

It seems the handling of the East Palestine, Ohio, train derailment didn't get good grades either. 57% of those polled disapprove of the president's handling of the accident. Only 33% approve, which is odd because he didn't do anything except participate in a Zoom call. Not a good look when people are sick and afraid to drink the water.

Can Biden save this sinking ship? Nope. He's not a leader. He never has been.
