On Easter Sunday, my husband discovered a grass fire in our pasture. He immediately called 911 and, within minutes, members of the Dickinson Rural Fire Department began showing up along with the Dickinson Police Department and the Stark County Sheriff’s Office. The rural fire department had numerous vehicles and firefighters here for several hours fighting the fire.
Because of their diligence and expertise, the fire remained in our pasture and hayfields and did not affect our house or quonset or go beyond our property.
These individuals gave up their Easter Sunday with their friends and families, and were here fighting to protect as much of our property as possible. When we thanked the few we were able to talk to, they all said “it’s just what we do.”
Volunteers of all fire departments do not get the recognition and thanks they deserve, but we wanted to be sure that those who were here on Easter were thanked publicly for their efforts. You are our unsung heroes and we thank you very much!
