“I look at YouTube and I get ideas and rig it up so it works for me,” Paul Weber says of his fishing kayak. “All this stuff I’ve done for pennies, but you can spend hundreds of dollars on it.”

While stream beds and topsoil in the area may be running dry, it hasn't affected the water levels of area lakes, according to officials.

Diagnosed in 2019 with severe diabetes, Jayne J. Jones, a 1992 Detroit Lakes High School graduate, has embraced a sugar-free lifestyle and is now making a name for herself as the "No Sugar Baker." Her fun online persona, food blogs and new book, “The No Sugar Baker’s Cookbook of Healthy Living and No Regrets," are drawing the attention of a growing number of fans.

A new sign, titled "A Treasure Trove of Gifts to All from Greater Sucker Creek," was recently installed along the main pathway at Upstream Sucker Creek in Detroit Lakes. The sign, which was sponsored by resident Kay N. Larson, is a companion piece to one that was installed there in memory of her husband several years ago.

It was with some surprise last Saturday, Dec. 19, that Loren Keizer, of Detroit Lakes, Minn., found himself in possession of a cat and five kittens that had been left in a cardboard box on his snowmobile trailer.

Monika Jeanmarie DeMarrias, 18, was charged under Extended Juvenile Jurisdiction and faces a stayed adult sentence of 12 years in prison.

Paul Sandstrom was last seen heading for his tree stand on his family's hunting grounds near Gardner Lake, north of Ponsford, Minn., on Sunday Nov. 8. His body was discovered two days later by search and rescue workers, but for Paul's legacy, his family only needs to look into the woods that he loved so much.
