JAMESTOWN -- The Dickinson State baseball team had a chance to secure the Dakota Athletic Conference regular season championship on Saturday.
But, during Game 2 of the team's doubleheader against Jamestown College, the short porch at Jack Brown Stadium helped the home team a little more than the visitors, forcing the split.
Tony Isbell hit two homers and Efrain Ruiz went 5-for-5 with a homer and two RBI as DSU won the first game 13-5.
But, Miles Johnson's second home run of the second game gave the Jimmies a one-run lead they wouldn't give up and secured their 6-5 win.
A DSU sweep would have gave them the conference title.
Instead, the top two teams in the DAC must wait at least two days before deciding who wins the crown. They were scheduled to play a doubleheader again today, but the games were postponed due to weather.
DSU coach Duane Monlux said late Saturday night that the games will be rescheduled to either Monday or Tuesday but that no decision had been made. Jamestown can win the title with a sweep. DSU wins the conference if they win at least one game in the next doubleheader.
DSU trailed 5-4 in Game 1 before putting eight runs on the board in the eighth inning.
Jamil Acosta started the game but earned a no decision. Ryan Saunders, pitching in relief, took the victory.
Isbell was 5-for-9 with three homers and five RBI in the doubleheader. Isbell, Mike Nash and Chris Young hit each homers in the second game.
Dickinson High graduate Austin Bauer got just one out in the fifth inning of Game 2. But because Ben Cairns hit a two-run shot and Johnson connected for a solo homer to give Jamestown the one-run lead, Bauer was awarded the win.
