Barry qualifies for high jump finals at Rio Olympics
Trevor Barry, a Dickinson State University graduate, advanced to the finals of the high jump at the Rio Olympics on Sunday.
Barry, who lives in Fargo and competes for the Bahamas, was one of 11 jumpers who hit 2.29 meters (7 feet, 6 inches) to qualify for the finals. Fifteen men qualified for Tuesday's finals.
Barry missed twice at 2.29 meters before completing the height. He finished in 10th in the qualifying round.
The mark was 1 1/4 inches off Barry's career best jump of 2.32 meters set in 2012.
Barry is one of two DSU alumni competing at the Olympics. His Bahamian countryman Adrian Griffith failed to qualify while competing in the 100 meters heats on Saturday.
Barry competes in the finals at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday. You can watch the track and field livestream nbcolympics.com.
