Heart River tops Burros, will play for 5th place

JAMESTOWN — The Heart River softball team stayed alive in the Class B state softball tournament on Friday by registering a 13-5 win against Hillsboro-Central Valley.

The Cougars will play Wilton-Wing at 12:30 p.m. Central Time Saturday in a battle for fifth place. Against the Burros on Friday, Heart River's Abby Kessel struck out 12 batters to pick up the win. She walked four and scattered six hits across seven innings.

The Cougars were ahead from the start, scoring four runs in the first inning and four more in the third, well on their way to a lopsided victory.

Kaylee Binstock was 2 for 3 with three runs and three RBI for the Cougars, Caylee Wilke was 3 for 5 with two runs and an RBI and McKenzie Buckman had a double and two RBI.
