The Dickinson High girls swimming and diving team defeated Bismarck High in a dual, topping the Demons 112-71 on Tuesday at the West River Community Center.

The Midgets were primarily propelled by their relay teams.

"All of our relays stepped up," Dickinson head coach Jenna Wolfe said. "We got first in all the relays. We were seeded behind them and they stepped it up in taking the lead to beat Bismarck."

A team of Jaydin Decker, Brianna Ashworth, Charley Rathgeber and Kara Wanner won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of two minutes, 5.06 seconds, just two seconds faster than the Bismarck team.

Hailey and Hannah Rathgeber, Korie Riely and Wanner teamed up to take first in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:49.49.

The 400-yard freestyle relay, comprised of Hailey and Hannah Rathgeber, Ashworth and Riely narrowly defeated Bismarck with a time of 3:59.78.

Riely, who swam anchor for the 400 relay team, had just come off a victory in the previous event, the 100-yard breaststroke. She defeated Bismarck's MaKenna Kuhn by three seconds, with a time of 1:17.14, before immediately preparing for the relay.

"It's not really the tired aspect for me," Riely said. "It's more just the nerves and all that adrenaline. It's already there from the early race. What my mom actually told me is take 12 deep breaths and that'll get your mind off all the pain that you're feeling and it'll get you ready and calm so you can get rid of those nerves."

Decker took home first in two events as well. She placed first in the 1-meter dive with 173.95 points, more than thirty points higher than second place diver, MacKenzie Johnson of Bismarck.

With a time of 1:10.76, Decker also won the 100-yard backstroke. The Midgets took first, second and third in the event, with Hannah Rathgeber and Sydne Beld following Decker with times of 1:14.53 and 1:14.77, respectively.
