Rodney Henry, a senior on the Dickinson State cross country team, finished fifth at the Jimmie Invitational in Jamestown on Friday, Oct. 5, completing the 8K in 26 minutes and 18.9 seconds.

His speed helped the Blue Hawk men finish second overall with a team score of 48.

DP: Where are you from and why did you choose DSU?

RH: "I'm from Jamaica originally and I used to attend a (junior college) in Kansas before I was recruited by Coach (Wittkopp) to be here."

DP: How long have you been running and what is your favorite part?

RH: "Well, I've been running for almost 10 years, this year. My favorite part about running is competing and going out there working as a team, working as a unit and just be victorious. Sometimes I might not be victorious, but just the love of it keeps me going and motivated."

DP: Why do you think you were so successful in Jamestown?

RH: "It's all about determination because for the past two meets before that we were just getting the cobwebs out, finding out the body and seeing... . After that we kind of put the pieces together then the result this weekend was successful due to the previous two runs."

DP: Do you have any personal goals for the season?

RH: "The personal goal for this season is to make my family proud, as usual, go to nationals and just be nice and successful, as usual."

DP: If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life?

RH: "I would go with some jerk chicken for sure. A lot of spice."

DP: What is the best place to eat in town?

RH: "I love Qdoba. That's my favorite place, even though I can't gain a pound."

DP: If you could have a super power, what would it be?

RH: "I'd like a super power like the Black Panther, you know?"

DP: What is the best show or movie you watched recently?

RH: "Cool Runnings all the way. Cool Runnings is my favorite movie and I watch that over and over."

DP: What or who is your inspiration to succeed?

RH: "It's a group of people. My wife, my family, my mother. I have a group of friends who are always behind me 100 percent. Making sure that I'm in good shape off season, both mentally and physically, they are there. The two persons in front, is my wife and my mother."
