GRAND FORKS -- The University of North Dakota will finish the regular season undefeated against the Big Ten.
Rookie defenseman Jacob Bernard-Docker ripped a shot from the right point past Badger goalie Daniel Lebedeff 21 seconds into overtime to give UND a 3-2 win over Wisconsin on Saturday night, Nov. 3, at Ralph Engelstad Arena.
It finished off a two-game sweep of the Badgers for UND.
Coupled with last weekend’s win over Minnesota, the Fighting Hawks will finish the regular season 3-0 against the Big Ten.
UND had nine power play chances against Wisconsin and finally won it on the last one -- an extended five-on-three power play.
It was Bernard-Docker’s second goal of the season.
Wisconsin jumped out to the early lead at 4:48 of the first period when Seamus Malone skated in the zone and sent a pass to the top of the crease, where a diving Will Johnson re-directed it past UND goalie Adam Scheel.
It was the first five-on-five goal allowed by Scheel in eight periods.
But UND answered early in the second period.
Badger defenseman Josh Ess attempted to break the puck out of his own end, but Mismash stripped him of the puck and fired a wrist shot low glove on Badger goalie Daniel Lebedeff to tie it 1-1.
Wisconsin regained the lead early in the third period when forward Tarek Baker re-directed a K’Andre Miller point shot past Scheel at 3:19.
But UND answered just 30 seconds later.
Defenseman Gabe Bast hit Jones with a stretch pass to send the senior center on a breakaway. Jones made a move to his forehand on top of the crease and slipped it five-hole on Lebedeff.
UND had a five-on-three power play for 1:23 to close regulation and another 21 seconds to open overtime.
UND travels to Oxford, Ohio, next weekend to take on Miami University.
