Lexi Gietzen, a senior middle hitter on the Glen Ullin-Hebron volleyball team, helped the Bearcats advance to the quarterfinals of the Region 7 Tournament. During a 3-2 loss at Richardton-Taylor on Tuesday, Oct. 30, Gietzen led the team with two blocks and 10 digs, while also contributing 11 kills, two aces and a pair of assists. Three days later, Glen Ullin-Hebron defeated the Raiders on the road in the first round of the Region 7 Tournament. In the playoff victory, Gietzen tallied 13 kills, two aces, two blocks, an assist, and a team-high 17 digs.

DP: What were the keys to victory against Richardton-Taylor in the first round of the Region 7 Tournament?

LG: "The keys to victory were hustle, do not let any ball drop, and once we have those things, we can beat any team out there."

DP: How has your senior season been on the volleyball court?

LG: "My senior season has been spectacular. I really love playing volleyball and I know I'm going to miss it, but I really thankful for these girls for working hard for our senior season."

DP: What other activities do you participate in?

LG: "Other activities I participate in are basketball, choir, band, FFA (what is it?), and I'm also in a choir from Bismarck."

DP: When did you start playing volleyball?

LG: "I started playing volleyball in fourth grade, which is the youngest you can start at our school."

DP: What do you like most about playing volleyball?

LG: "(The thing I like) most about volleyball, I don't know. I just like the thrill of getting a ball off the ground right before it hits the ground. Just all the hustle and its really cool to have a team that really works together, it makes you feel amazing."

DP: Who is your funniest teammate?

LG: "My funniest teammate would probably be Kinsey Zuroff."

DP: If you had to lose any of your senses, which one would it be?

LG: "I'd probably lose the sense of smell."

DP: If you had to eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?

LG: "If I had to eat one thing for the rest of my life, it'd probably either be pizza or just any sandwich."

DP: What is the best tv show or movie that you've watched recently?

LG: "I'd say the best tv show or movie that I've watched recently would be The Hunger Games Trilogy. I really like those movies."

DP: Snapchat or Instagram?

LG: "I would choose Snapchat."

DP: Country music or Hip Hop?

LG: "It's really close, but I'd probably choose Hip Hop."

DP: Volleyball or any other sport?

LG: "This one is really tough. It's really close, but I think I'd go with basketball over volleyball."

DP: Coke or Pepsi?

LG: "Pepsi."

DP: What is your first sports memory?

LG: "Well, I think I started out with kind of an awkward memory. When I was in the fourth grade, I was in basketball for the first time, I accidentally shot at the wrong hoop. And I...that was not good. (Laughs)"

DP: Who has been your biggest inspiration to succeed?

LG: "My biggest inspiration to succeed has probably been my dad. I try to model after him in everything, in sports, just in everyday life. Yeah, he's my biggest kind of hero."
