MANDAN - The Dickinson High boys swim and dive team was fifth out of six teams at the Mandan Invite on Saturday, Feb. 9, from the Mandan Aquatics Center. The Midgets earned a total score of 182.5 as Minot topped the meet with a mark of 666.
Completing the 50-meter freestyle with a personal-best time of 23.89 seconds, freshman Mason Beck brought home Dickinson’s best individual performance with a second-place finish. He was also eighth in the 100 freestyle.
Midgets senior Isaac Ellerkamp had a strong day in the pool, earning third in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:21.50, and fifth in the 100 breaststroke after clocking in at 1:09.91.
Freshman Dawson Wilson narrowly missed out on state-qualifying for the 100 butterfly, turning in a mark of 1:03.99, a mere .54 seconds off the state pace. He was also fourth in the 1-meter dive with a score of 318.45.
With a mark of 5:47.59, good enough for sixth place, freshman Trent Irwin nearly state-qualified for 500 freestyle, just under five seconds off the qualifying standard. Fellow freshman Casey Tuhy was right behind in ninth.
