BISMARCK - With a school record-breaking time of 23.08 seconds, Dickinson freshman swimmer Mason Beck placed ninth in the 50-yard freestyle on the first day of the State Boys Swimming and Diving Championships, on Friday, March 1, at the Bismarck Aquatic Center.

Although he missed out on an eighth-place finish and a spot in the ‘A’ final by just over half a second, Beck will compete in the ‘B’ final on Saturday.

Also narrowly missing out on a top-8 finish, was senior Isaac Ellerkamp. With a time of one minute, 3.69 seconds, Ellerkamp took ninth in the 100 breaststroke and will swim in the ‘B’ final.

In the 200 individual medley, Ellerkamp set a new school record as he stopped the clock at 2:11.95, good for 12th place a slot in the event’s ‘B’ final.

Sophomore Taven Wilson was about seven seconds away from a chance to swim on Saturday, as he swam the 500-yard freestyle in 5:24.41 to take 19th. However, that time was fast enough to set a new Dickinson team record. Freshman Casey Tuhy took 32nd in the same event with a time of 5:43.93.

Wilson swam the 200 freestyle in 1:58.29, good for 20th. Meanwhile, freshman Dawson Wilson placed 24th in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.53 and finished 21st in the 1-meter dive, accruing a score of 133.45.
