In the first of three games of the North Dakota Softball SCHEELS All-Star Series, recent Dickinson High graduate Kennedy Kuntz hit a grand slam. The four-run home run was the first of its kind in all-star game history and propelled the West to a 7-5 victory over the East on Monday, June 3 at Mickelson Field in Fargo.
The West won game two 10-8 later that day, but couldn’t complete the sweep, falling 11-6 on Tuesday, June 4 from Starion Bank Field in Bismarck.
Kuntz went yard again in game two, along with Gabby Nelson of Fargo Shanley, who homered in game one and two for the East. Nelson, a St. Cloud State commit, also tripled in game two. She continued her dominance in game three, hitting a pair of doubles and a triple to go 4-for-4.
The East All-Stars put up nine runs in the third inning of the final contest, ensuring they did not get swept in the series.
Kuntz, a Dickinson State commit, stayed consistent, putting up a pair of hits for the third straight game.
Kamryn Kuntz also represented Dickinson in the series, going 0-for-6 over the three games.
The East was the victor in the Skills Competition, besting the West 27-13. Kamryn Kuntz was the fastest runner in the ‘home-to-home’ race, recording times of 11.39 and 11.49 seconds. Kennedy Kuntz competed in the outfield throwing accuracy challenge, accumulating five points.
